Invite you to join the sixth in a series of conversations about economic issues affecting DC's individuals, families and communities and critical tools that can measurably improve financial well-being.

We will present opportunities and discuss trends in lending to small businesses and entrepreneurs, financial institutions, government agencies, lenders and small business technical assistance providers in Washington, DC.

The sixth in this series on
Wednesday, June 29, 2016 will focus on various types of lending sources and assistance for small businesses and entrepreneurs. In the lending space, these Community Development Financial Institutions, financial institutions and small business technical assistance providers presenting can be potential game changers for businesses and entrepreneurs. A recent FDIC report entitled "Small Businesses and Small Business Finance During the Financial Crisis and the Great Recession: New Evidence From the Survey of Consumer Finances" indicates relationship lending relies on “soft information” about the borrower acquired over time by a lender who often has multiple interactions across a variety of financial services with its customer and that community banks have an advantage.

Speakers will focus on the platforms that exist to lend to small businesses and entrepreneurs that can lead to a positive effect on business and community.

Four meetings to be held throughout 2016 will consider current research and best practices about financial access, new transaction products, and other tools for building wealth, aimed at developing a multi-faceted financial literacy and asset building collaboration in DC.  Participants can expect robust discussions about cross-sector strategies that can contribute significantly to a more inclusive, equitable DC economy.
