The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is refundable, meaning that recipients whose credit exceeds their federal income tax liability can receive the difference as a refund.

Impact of the Federal EITC in the District of Columbia in 2017

  • Over 51,000 low-income DC residents claimed in the Federal EITC
  • DC residents received over $120 million in Federal EITC
  • The average Federal EITC amount was $2,336
  • 18% of total DC tax filers received the Federal EITC

The IRS Estimates that over 28% of eligible Federal EITC tax filers in DC are not claiming the EITC.

The Federal EITC puts money directly into the pockets of hard working, low-income DC families.

Let's raise awareness of the EITC in DC!

The CAAB-managed DC EITC Campaign, is a citywide, cross-sector initiative that provides access to information on the EITC and connects Washingtonians with free tax preparation services throughout the District.

The DC EITC Campaign is made possible through the support from Citi Community Development and United Way of the National Capital Area.
